MY FIRST IBON-EBON FESTIVAL
I have long heard of this festival from my pamangkins who took part in it during their school activities…sometimes, they would participate as dancers, other times as part of the band, in fact, there was even one pamangkin of mine who made the rounds of different provinces performing as a drummer to feature this particular Candaba festival. According to Wikipedia and the Department of Tourism website the Ibon-Ebon festival (literally means Birds and Eggs festival) was organized just recently. It was spearheaded by Candaba Mayor Jerry Pelayo in 1998 as a way of paying homage to the migratory birds that flock to the Candaba swamp as they travel in search of warmer temperatures from different parts of the globe. One of the highlights of the festival is the street parade participated in by many students from the different barangays of Candaba. These are just a few of the pictures of this year’s street parade…
